On June 1st 2008 two of our Christchurch members, Flip Grater and Mariann Matay, lined up alongside over 4,500 other participants registered for the SBS Marathon. Flip entered the half marathon event and Mariann the 10km. This was Flip's first half marathon, and all that training definitely paid off. Flip says it was great to come “bowling into the finishing chute past collapsing peers and hundreds of cheering crowd members with a wide smile on my face and my Team Vegan t-shirt worn proudly.” Thanks to supporters on the day who turned up to cheer the pair along with encouragement from the sidelines.
